‘Variety- the children’s charity’ is a national, not-for-profit organization committed to empowering Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn. Using the funds raised to give practical equipment, programs and experience, Variety helps kids in need to overcome whatever obstacles they face and to live life to the fullest.

As part of raising funds every year cars 69 and 50 are regular entrants to the Variety bash. The cars must be 30 years or older at the time of entry. The bash started in 1985 when adventurer Dick Smith and a few mates drove their old cars from Bourke to Bourketown raising money for charity along the way. Since the first Queensland bash in 1990, in excess of $18 million has been raised. During the bash, Variety makes donations of equipment for facilities to many local communities and individuals.

Now in its 11th year, the Konvoy has raised over $210,000 for the children’s charity. The Konvoy is a trucking event, where around 100 trucks drive from Sarina to Mackay in convoy, raising awareness and funds for the charity.

The Mackay special school sends a sunshine bus, which was donated to the school from Variety and the Konvoy 4 Kids, full of fun loving kids who get to take part in the truck convoy. A few lucky children even have the chance to ride shotgun in a big rig as they motor into Mackay.

Arriving at the Mackay Showground’s, the trucks line up on display and everyone gets to enjoy the activities available for the whole family. There are rides and jumping castles for the kids, and competitions for the adults with market stalls and live music to keep everyone entertained throughout the day, the Konvoy 4 Kids is an extremely enjoyable event.

All Donations made to Variety Queensland are spent within the year they are received, and the proceeds are spent entirely throughout Queensland.  All donations received are greatly appreciated and it would be wonderful if you could make a contribution to bringing a smile to the face of these beautiful, special children.
